Run DocuSwift serverless on AWS. Self-host only when you must.

Our recommended AWS Serverless edition deploys into your own AWS account, bills per use and needs no servers, which makes it the most cost-effective way to run DocuSwift. When policy requires documents in your own data centre, the On-Premises edition runs on Docker with PostgreSQL and conventional file storage, in any data centre or cloud.

Two editions

Start with serverless

Both editions give your teams the same way of working: sources and folders, metadata search, approvals, e-signatures and audit logs. The AWS Serverless edition costs less to run and includes every capability; the On-Premises edition is for organisations that must self-host.

Recommended

AWS Serverless edition

Your AWS account, any supported region

Our recommended edition and the most cost-effective way to run DocuSwift. It is provisioned with AWS CloudFormation into your own AWS account, and AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB and S3 scale automatically: you pay for what you use, with no servers to buy, patch or staff.

  • Pay per use: no idle servers, hardware or database licences to fund
  • Every DocuSwift capability, including IDP, retention and the tamper-evident audit archive
  • Production, DR and non-production installs in every plan; active-active option
  • Documents in your Amazon S3 buckets, encrypted with your KMS keys

Choose it when

  • You want the lowest running cost and nothing to operate
  • You need intelligent document processing, compliance posture and retention automation
  • You want disaster recovery included rather than built and run yourself
  • You want to procure through AWS Marketplace and draw down committed spend

On-Premises edition

Any data centre or cloud that runs Linux containers

Runs as Docker containers on servers you control, with a PostgreSQL database and conventional file storage. Install it in your own data centre, a private cloud, or on any public cloud: Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud or Amazon EC2.

  • Docker Compose deployment: API, background worker, scheduler and Redis
  • Your PostgreSQL 12+ database, self-run or a managed service
  • Documents on a local disk, NAS or SAN volume you already back up
  • Core document management stays entirely inside your network

Choose it only when self-hosting is required

  • Policy or a regulator requires documents in your own data centre
  • You standardise on Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, VMware or bare metal
  • You want to reuse existing PostgreSQL, storage and backup investments
  • Your IT team prefers to operate the stack itself
Why serverless

Why we recommend the AWS Serverless edition

Less to pay for, nothing to run, and the full DocuSwift feature set.

Lower running cost

AWS Lambda and Amazon DynamoDB bill per request and Amazon S3 per gigabyte stored, so you never pay for idle servers. Aavas Financiers reports 60% lower infrastructure management cost after moving to DocuSwift on AWS.

Nothing to operate

No servers, operating systems or databases to buy, patch or monitor. Capacity scales up for month-end peaks and back down afterwards, automatically.

Every capability

Today only the AWS edition includes intelligent document processing, full-text OCR search, the tamper-evident audit archive, retention and legal holds, compliance posture, SIEM export and the SharePoint and Salesforce connectors.

Resilience included

Every plan includes production, disaster-recovery and non-production installs, with an active-active option across two AWS regions that delivers 99.99% uptime at Aavas Financiers.

FAQ

Choosing an edition

Hardware and software prerequisites are on the On-Premises page.

Which edition should we choose?
We recommend the AWS Serverless edition. It is the more cost-effective edition to run: AWS services bill per use, so there are no idle servers, and there is no hardware or database to buy, patch or staff. It also includes every DocuSwift capability and a disaster-recovery install in every plan. Choose the On-Premises edition when policy or a regulator requires documents in your own data centre, or when you must run on a cloud other than AWS.
Can DocuSwift run outside AWS?
Yes. The DocuSwift On-Premises edition runs as Docker containers on Linux servers you control, with a PostgreSQL database and conventional file storage. You can install it in your own data centre, a private cloud such as VMware, or on any public cloud including Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud and Amazon EC2.
Does any data leave our network?
Not for core document management: documents, metadata and audit logs stay on your servers. AI summaries (Amazon Bedrock), Aadhaar masking (FinHub API) and Microsoft Entra ID sign-in are optional integrations that make outbound calls only when you enable and configure them.
How do the two editions differ in features?
Both editions share the core DMS: folders and versions, metadata and bulk search, approval flows, workflows and webhooks, e-signatures, audit logs with export, role-based access, TOTP MFA, Microsoft sign-in and the REST API. Intelligent document processing with Amazon Textract, full-text OCR search, the hash-chained audit archive, retention rules and legal holds, compliance posture, access reviews, SIEM export and the SharePoint and Salesforce connectors are currently delivered by the AWS Serverless edition.
Who operates the On-Premises edition?
Your IT team runs the hosts, Docker, PostgreSQL and backups, using the tools you already have. HabileLabs provides the software releases and helps with installation and configuration.
How is the On-Premises edition licensed?
The On-Premises edition is licensed directly by HabileLabs and quoted for your environment. The annual plans on AWS Marketplace cover the AWS Serverless edition. Contact us with your user count, document volume and hosting environment for a quote.
